Life as I see it… (10/19/2016)

I’ve known all week that writing this week’s column would be a little tough, but it is one that I want to write.

Like many people in Colusa County this past week, a piece of my heart broke off when I heard my dear friend Renee Dolbow had lost her battle with cancer.

Knowing this sweet, beautiful woman, I can only imagine that even in this, she did it with dignity and grace.

There’s a silly group of us we like to call the “Chicks of 66,” and of course, Renee was one of the Chicks.

I have known Renee since freshman year in high school. The other chicks have known her far longer.

Of us all, she was the prettiest and in my eyes always the most perfect. Renee would be the first to disagree with me. She just didn’t know how beautiful she was. We used to tease she is the only woman I know that could wear linen and not wrinkle.

Renee and I shared a few secrets, and I always knew she was my friend.

I got to introduce her to Tom last spring and she was quick to give her approval and to tell him he is a lucky man. Bless her.

Renee loved her family beyond words, especially her darling grandson Asa. She always beamed when she would share news about Asa. She was equally proud of her daughter Kim and took great pride in her.

Her dog Sadie came into her life not so many years ago, but Sadie brought much joy to Renee. Dogs have a way of worming into our hearts, and they also love us unconditionally. I know Renee loved that sweet, old girl right back. Being a “dog person” myself, I totally got the bond she had with Sadie.

It’s hard to realize now that this dear friend of so many of us is gone from us and it will be awhile yet before we get to see her again.

I’ve had a real struggle with this one. Some things just don’t seem right somehow.

I wanted this column to be a tribute to this special lady so many of us called our friend. I can’t seem to find enough of the right words to write.

In our lives we meet people and we become a part of one another’s lives. Renee was one of those people in my life.

I didn’t get to see her as much as I would have liked to, but on those occasional visits, I always knew she cared for me and wanted nothing more than for me to be happy.

There is a hole left in the hearts of all of us who knew and loved this beautiful woman. Truly she was lovely to the core.
