Life as I see it… (12/14/2016)

December 4 marked my 10th year in business with Kathy Craigo Media Consulting.

If I sat down and tried to list all of the blessings this adventure has brought my way I suspect the list would be very, very long.

The year I opened my doors was filled with anticipation, a little bit of fear on my part, and a great deal of support from people around me.

I was taking a leap of faith, but in my heart I felt like it was the right thing to do even though I was walking away from a guaranteed paycheck as a news reporter. I was stepping out on my own and being the sole support of myself. Scary stuff!

I had been widowed after 34 years of marriage. I had moved from North Dakota back to my home county of Colusa and I had worked for four years as a reporter before I took that step. The time at the paper helped me to hone my craft, and it also helped me to build relationships that would continue into this business.

I’ve been here at 430 Market Street in the Newlin building for 10 years now. I couldn’t ask for better landlords than Ralph and Nancy Newlin.

I’ve got a client list of people with whom I’m proud to be associated.

I’ve made mistakes, I’ve had success and most of all; I have been blessed.

A lot has changed in my life in the past 10 years. People have come into my life. Some have left my life. There has been joy and sorrow, but always withstanding it all; I have survived. God has His eye on me for sure.

I’ve said this before and so I say it again; “I have not done this on my own”. The day I opened my doors I asked God to bless me and everyone who walked through my door. So far I have seen that happen.

I always start my day with journaling, bible study and prayer. My prayer always includes a request that God will send to me someone to help. Sometimes when I look up from my desk I am surprised. My first thought at times has been; “Really God”? I have had some challenges over the years but all is good.

If I can continue to help folks when they need to be helped; even in the smallest of ways, it is worth the effort.

There have been days when I’m under the gun to finish a project and I am suddenly interrupted by an “answer to my prayer” walking through my door.

“It is what it is,” we always say.

I’m proud to have served this community, I’m proud to have stepped up and been accepted so graciously by our business community.

Our world today is vastly different from when I was growing up in Colusa County. Some things are the same, even some of the people from my youth are still here.

There are memories here for me. As much as I miss being with my kids and my grandkids back in North Dakota, I am still happy to have come back to my roots.

Life is good today.
