Season’s Greetings Colusa County Veterans

The holiday season means different things to different people. It means celebrating with family and friends, and often remembering those who are not able to be with us this season due to serving overseas on military deployments.  As we all remember our many personal blessings this holiday season, we should also take a moment to remember how truly fortunate our country is to have the remarkable men and women of our armed forces deployed overseas who serve so courageously and so selflessly.

As you know, our military members are doing magnificent work in Afghanistan, Iraq, and a host of other places throughout the world.  Many of them will celebrate the holidays while deployed on combat and contingency operations, defending our nation’s freedoms far from home and far from their loved ones.  They – and their families – have made enormous sacrifices over the years, in many cases deploying multiple times and enduring long separations from those at home while carrying out important missions in challenging conditions against tough enemies.

As an Army retiree who spent many holiday seasons overseas, I know how important it is to graciously say “thank you” to all of the currently deployed soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines for putting their life on the line every day to defend freedom so that all of us back home are kept safe. Let us remember our active duty military members serving in hostile overseas locations around the world and their families stateside as we celebrate the upcoming holidays.

Merry Christmas to all the Colusa County Veterans, their families and to those brave military men and women deployed at this very moment that could not be here with us for the holidays.

Remember, the Colusa County Veteran Services office is here to serve veterans and their dependents. I can complete the DMV Veteran Status Verification Form for the new California Veteran Designation on your driver’s license. There are many state and federal benefits available to veterans and their dependents that they have earned. To find out if you are eligible for any of these benefits, visit or call our office.  I can and will assist you in completing all required application forms.  You can get information on the Web from the Colusa County Veterans Service Office webpage at http://www.countyofcolusa.org/index.aspx?nid=180
