Life as I see it (12/28/2016)

It’s not about the gifts. It’s not about the food, the perfect decorations or what the weather is doing.

It’s about the feeling you get when you look around the room and see people you love. Your children are all in the nest, and now you have grandchildren too.

The blizzard may come, and you have to trudge through the wind, and snow to get to the car to hopefully get to the next gathering spot. Still when we are together I feel that overpowering since of gratefulness.

Tom and I both have lost people we love and now to find one another and plan a new life somehow feels like a bit of a Christmas miracle.

The blizzard, as predicted, hit this afternoon. It’s still snowing tonight as I write, but with any luck, all will be good when we fly back to California in Tuesday.

Coming here to North Dakota, Tom was a little nervous of what it might be like. He wondered what it would be like to meet people who knew me for so many of the years I lived here.

What he found was that he was welcomed with literally opened arms having received as many hugs as did I. He was made comfortable by everyone and welcomed into our family.

I am so pleased that the people I love have been so wonderful to him.

Even in the sub-zero temperature there is warmth in North Dakota. It comes from the hearts of the people here.

I have repeatedly said how blessed I am to have made my home here in North Dakota for so many years.

Tonight with the blowing wind and snow, I admit I may be ready to head back to California. Even so; I’m feeling warm and loved and blessed.

Life is good today.
