Colusa: Redhawks Fall to Durham

In a game that was 0-0 heading into the second quarter, the Trojans looked to their passing attack for a spark and senior quarterback Jared Heath delivered, helping propel Durham to a 17-0 victory at home.

Wide receiver Nick Murphy had a step on Colusa cornerback Lucas Davison and Heath hit Murphy in stride as he streaked down the field, resulting in a 53-yard gain. Shortly thereafter, Heath and Murphy connected again to cap their first scoring drive a six-yard touchdown. Kicker Mason Davis failed to convert the extra point, but redeemed himself when he booted a 33-yard field goal through the uprights later in the quarter.

As time was winding down in the half, Murphy looked deep against Davison again, but the cornerback made him pay. Davison snatched the ball out of the air and weaved his way 70 yards toward the end zone as time expired in the half. Davison was caught from behind by Trojans sophomore Seth Moody inside the 10-yard line.

Colusa’s offense had a tough time getting going, and were held to a total 110 yards for the game. On defense, Graeson Bell and Justin Pingrey were tops on the RedHawks in tackles with 12. Pingrey also had an interception for the RedHawks. Colusa ran the ball 19 times for 60 yards, with Nan Rodriguez leading them in carries (18) and yards (37). Quarterback Wade Townsend finished 6/20 for 50 yards and two interceptions.

Manny Tovalin led the Trojans in rushing attempts (22) and yards (91). Heath had 171 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Trojans ran 75 plays to the RedHawks 45, and finished with 431 total yards on offense.

Next up for Colusa (2-2) is a home contest against Williams (3-1), which lost to Willows this week.

Pierce: Bears Shut out By East Nicolaus

The Pierce Bears became the second Colusa County team to fall to the Trojans, losing to an East Nicolaus squad that has seemed unstoppable so far this year. The Bears allowed 35 first half points and allowed 600 yards of total offense. No stats were available for the Bears at the time of publication.
