Boys Basketball
Colusa cruises past East Nicolaus 73-43

Thirteen players scored for the RedHawks in their Dec. 20 home non-conference game against the East Nicolaus Spartans (2-7), with senior forward Graeson Bell leading the charge. Bell played well for the RedHawks, shooting 67 percent from the field and 88 percent from the stripe to finish with 19 points. Bell also led Colusa (7-4) in rebounds with seven.

Junior forward Will Kalisuch added nine points, and senior forward Danny Bedolla added eight points and six rebounds for Colusa.

Colusa will hit the court again against Division III Paradise (3-6) on Jan. 5 in their opening game of the Oroville Tourney.

Girls basketball
Lady Redhawks defeat Spartans on the Road

While the boys were taking care of business against East Nicolaus on their home court, Colusa’s girls basketball team (6-5) traveled to Trowbridge and defeated the Spartans soundly, 54-28.

Merissa Almeda led the RedHawks in scoring with 11 points, followed closely by Edith Mendoza with 10 points and Lexi Ramos with nine.

Next up for Colusa is a non-conference game at home on Tuesday, Jan. 3 against Biggs (5-5).

Boys Soccer

The Colusa Boys Soccer team hosted Los Molinos on Thursday and came away with a 5-0 win. Colusa’s first goal was booted in by forward Leo Guzman at the 16th, unassisted. At the 23rd minute, Colusa forward Manuel Lomeli, put in Colusa’s second goal off a Christian Velez assist. The first half would end at 2-0. The second half opened up with Christian Velez scoring Colusa’s third goal, assisted by Christian Lomeli. Ten minutes later, it was Velez heading it in, scoring off a corner kick by a Redhawk forward. One minute later, Colusa’s fifth and final goal would go in off a Cristoval Guzman shot deflecting off a Los Molinos defender and going into

the back of the net. The 5-0 score would hold until the final whistle. Defensive standouts were Gumer Salazar, Freddy Casillas, and Fabian Navarro. Colusa now stands at 4-3-2 in non -league play. Colusa will host Hamilton City on January 5th, 2017 at 3:15 on the Boys Soccer Field.
