Colusa woman arrested on suspicion of forgery, identity theft, and counterfeiting

Katie Pfeil-Espell

A request for extra patrol by a landowner on the 3800 block of Highway 45 led to a 30-year-old Colusa woman being arrested on suspicion of five felonies, including making or having a counterfeit die or a counterfeiting apparatus, forgery, falsifying a driver’s license or identification card, identity theft, and identity theft of more than 10 people.
The woman was also arrested on suspicion of two misdemeanors: receiving known stolen property and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia.
According to Colusa County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Contreras, a deputy conducting extra patrol near the 3800 block of Highway 45, north of Colusa, stopped Katie Lynn Pfeil-Espell, for allegedly trespassing on private property at around 10:30 AM on Friday morning.
“A landowner requested extra patrol, and our beat deputy, when he was conducting his extra patrol, made contact with this person,” Contreras said. “She was stopped for trespassing on that property, and was searchable because she was on probation.”
Pfeil-Espell was sentenced to summary probation following a no-contest plea for a charge of hit and run driving in January. She was later charged with, and pleaded no-contest to, possession of drug paraphernalia in April, according to the Colusa County Superior Court’s online case index.
“During the investigation, the deputy found that she was in possession of the identities of more than 10 victims that we found,” Contreras said.
Contreras said items found in Pfeil-Espell’s vehicle included forged and fake checks, identifying information, and debit cards. While Contreras was unable to say whether the alleged victims were strictly from Colusa County, he added that the investigating deputy had been working to contact all of them.
As of Monday afternoon, the Colusa County District Attorney’s Office had yet to file charges against Pfeil-Spell in the Superior Court. ■
