Otterson takes deal, pleads guilty to grand theft of animal

Tucker Michael Otterson, the 28-year-old former Stonyford-area resident accused of multiple charges in connection with the unlawful killing of two cows on Leesville-Ladoga Road on Feb. 9, accepted a plea agreement offered by the Colusa County District Attorney’s Office in court last week.

Otterson pleaded guilty to a single felony count of grand theft of an animal in the Colusa County Superior Court on Dec. 6. The charge carries a maximum sentence of three years in jail, and the Colusa County Probation Department suggested that Otterson be sentenced to the upper term. Colusa County District Attorney Matthew Beauchamp said that he will also be requesting the upper term of three years at Otterson’s sentencing on Jan. 31. As a convicted felon, Otterson will not be able to own firearms.

In addition to the felony grand theft charge, Otterson, who allegedly killed two cows and decapitated one on Leesville-Ladoga Road in February, was originally charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty, vandalism of private property, delaying a peace officer in an investigation, and hit and run causing property damage. The latter three charges were misdemeanors. As a part of his plea deal, the other charges will be dismissed on a Harvey Waiver.

Beauchamp previously said that the grand theft charge stemmed from Otterson stealing the head of one of the cows.

Otterson is set to be sentenced at 8:30 AM on Jan. 31.
