A new era at Colusa City Fire Department, Conley takes over as chief

For more than a quarter of a century, Randy Dunn has been the man at the helm of the Colusa City Fire Department. Last week, he officially turned over the reigns to Senior Fire Captain Logan Conley, who became the tenth chief in the history of the Colusa City Fire Department last Friday.

“I felt that Logan was ready to be Chief. I’ve been working with him for a few years now to ready him for my position,” Dunn said on Monday. “The time just felt right.”

A small crowd of Conley’s friends and family, along with a number of community members, city staff and firefighters, gathered for the short ceremony at the fire hall on Friday.

After Dunn pinned a chief’s badge on Conley, the new Chief expressed his thanks for the showing of support.

“It’s humbling… everyone that has supported me throughout the years. I’m not sure why I’ve been honored with that, but I want you to know that I appreciate it, and I’m going to do my best not to let you guys down,” Conley said.

Conley, 33, has been a firefighter for the past 15 years, starting at the department when he was 18 years old.

“Even though I have planned on trying to strive for the chief’s position, now that it’s actually happened, the weight of the responsibility and the realization that you have support is an emotional experience,” Conley said after the ceremony.

While Dunn is retiring from his position as the city’s Fire Chief, he will continue to serve as the Interim City Manager going forward, where he hopes to take care of some unfinished business.

“I want to see the boat ramp completed, which it should be in 2017. I am also going to work to see the CTI project move forward to the Planning Commission and City Council for their consideration in the next few months,” Dunn said. “I will also be working on readying someone to take my place for the position of Interim City Manager or City Manager.”
