Just over 2,000 lbs of fresh dungeness crab were cooked, cracked, and fed to the hundreds attending the Maxwell Fire Department’s fundraiser Saturday.

“We had a great turn-out and everything went as expected,” said Fire Chief Kenny Cohen.

The weather was no deterrent, as the Maxwell American Legion Hall was packed with hungry crab enthusiasts.

“No one does it better than Maxwell,” stated resident Kellie Dennis. “We are a community that comes together to support our one and only, our life line. Everyone is there to support the heartbeat of our town,”

In its 27th year, the annual event helps raise funds for the fire department’s training, medical supplies, and equipment. The department is currently staffed with 27 volunteers and three paid employees.

By the night’s end, over 90 items were raffled and 85 items were awarded to the highest bidder during the auction.

“I would like to send a special thanks to Jack and Donna Barrett, Pat Ryan, and to George and Laurie Costa for their help with the event this year,” said Cohen.
