Farm Show Opens!

As if on cue, storm clouds parted and the wind died to a gentle breeze Tuesday for opening day of the Colusa Farm Show.

“I’m glad the weather cooperated,” said George Dunham, of Red Bluff. “We need the rain, but it’s nice having short breaks in the storm to get things done.”

Like many farmers, ranchers, and growers from Northern California, Dunham hasn’t missed a Colusa Farm Show in years.

“It’s always nice to come down and see all the new equipment,” he said.

The 52nd annual Farm Show has something of a new look, with the opening of the front parking area of the Colusa County Fairgrounds for a number of new vendors.

NorCal Kenworth made its Colusa Farm Show debut this year, showing off the latest model of big rig tractors.

Truck Sales representative Ryan Murphy attended a previous expedition and said he knew Colusa was the place to be to network the company’s four dealerships, located in Sacramento, San Leandro, Anderson and Morgan Hill.

“So here we are,” Murphy said. “We’re happy to be here.”

Fairgrounds staff member Araceli Plaza said visitors to the farm show this year can expect a great show.

“I think it’s a great resource for all the farmers from Northern California and Southern California,” said Plaza. “We get a mix of everyone, and we have something for all.”

As he made his way from vendor to vendor, filling a bag with pens, brochures, and other offerings, 80-year-old Mitchell Spence of Sacramento said the Colusa Farm Show gets better and better each year.

“Everyone is so welcoming,” he said. “The older I get, the harder it is to make it around the fairgrounds, so it’s nice that so many had coffee or a donut. It’s just a great show all around.”

The Colusa Farm Show continues today and Thursday.

Wednesday’s Farm Show includes the Ag Leadership Breakfast at St. Bernadette’s Hall, the annual Colusa-Sutter-Yuba Winter Almond Meeting, and the Healthy Soils Workshop.

Thursday’s Farm Show offers a presentation on the Sites Reservoir project, and a seminar on agriculture safety practices. The California Highway Patrol will also hold a seminar on motor carrier safety practices.

The Farm Show features more than 300 exhibitors presenting the most cutting-edge farm equipment, technology, and services to help farmers make the best choices for their agriculture practices.

The Farm Show runs from 9 AM to 5 PM today, and 9 AM to 4 PM on Thursday, at the Colusa County Fairgrounds, 1303 10th St., Colusa.
