Arbuckle woman pleads no-contest to misdemeanor charge of child endangerment

Vanessa Aileen Saavedra, one of five Arbuckle residents arrested earlier this month following a series of search warrants served by the Colusa County Task Force, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of child endangerment at the Colusa County Superior Court on Wednesday.

Saavedra was facing a felony count of child endangerment, in addition to a misdemeanor count of possession of a smoking device. The latter charge was dropped.

Saavedra’s attorney, Albert Smith, asked whether the court would consider releasing his client on her own recognizance. Deputy District Attorney Brendan Farrell that his office wouldn’t have a problem with it, with the condition that Saavedra be both searchable and testable for drugs, and that she have no contact with her children prior to sentencing, absent any court order. The district attorney’s office also stipulated that Saavedra not have contact with Saul Alonzo Anguiano Carmona, who was arrested at the same residence as Saavedra as a result of the Feb. 2 search warrant, also on suspicion of felony child endangerment and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia.

Saavedra is due back for sentencing on April 5.
