Flood recovery information meeting

In an effort to provide information to those impacted by recent flooding, the County of Colusa will host a community information meeting from 2 PM to 6 PM on Tuesday, Feb. 28. at the  Fire Hall, 260 Oak Street, in Maxwell.

“We are going to have a variety of booths with information,” said Janice Bell, County of Office of Emergency Services Technician. “It won’t necessarily be like a panel, but people will be able to get information and find out what to do next.”

The meeting will be an open house format allowing community members to stop in at any time.

Community members will be able to find resources from the County Sheriff’s Department, CalOES, Building Department and Environmental Health, Public Works and Flood Management, Public Health and Cal Works, the Red Cross, Recology, Habitat for Humanity, the Maxwell Public Utility District, Maxwell Fire Department and the Small Business Administration.

Bell said that the county’s local emergency declaration had not yet received state or federal support, but the Colusa County Board of Supervisors submitted a request for an emergency declaration from the governor’s office during Tuesday’s meeting. An emergency declaration by the governor would open the door for further assistance.

“The gubernatorial declaration should open up the California Disaster Assistance Act to us,” said Bell. “This will allow us to get small business and individuals low-interest loans to help people recover from the flooding.”
