Burglary at Williams pharmacy, high speed pursuit lead to arrest in Arbuckle

A Citrus Heights man was arrested in Arbuckle earlier this month after allegedly burglarizing the Fouch & Sons Pharmacy in Williams and stealing prescription pills, then leading a Williams police officer on a high speed chase on Interstate 5.

According to the booking report for the Colusa County Jail, David Michael Gibson, 24, was arrested at 2:56 a.m. on March 6 at the Williams Police Department, on suspicion of felony burglary and vandalism. Williams Police Sgt. Daniel Mata said that an officer on patrol first observed a black BMW driving east on E St. at 1:30 a.m.

“Moments later, he was driving down E St. near Fourth Street when he heard an alarm sounding at Fouch’s,” Mata said. “That officer saw the black BMW speeding away from Fouch’s and failing to stop at stop signs as it traveled eastbound on E St.”

Mata said that a call come through dispatch at the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office for the alarm shortly thereafter, but that the officer was already pursuing the vehicle.

The officer followed the vehicle through town and onto southbound Interstate 5, where the pursuit reached speeds in excess of 120 mph, Mata said. The BMW exited the freeway in Arbuckle, where the driver and passenger fled the vehicle on foot. Officers located the abandoned vehicle and conducted a search of the area, at which point one of two suspects – Gibson – was located and arrested. Officers returned to the police department Williams with Gibson, where he confessed to the burglary, Mata said.

“We reviewed video from the business and it appeared to be Gibson breaking in,” Mata said. “We are still in the process of investigating, and there is still one outstanding suspect.”

Mata added that the department was looking into whether the March 6 burglary was related to an earlier burglary on Feb. 21, noting that “there are similarities.” A search warrant was served at Gibson’s Citrus Heights residence following the arrest, Mata said.
