Open for the season: Local Farmers’ Markets

As the days grow longer, and the temperatures soar higher, the local farmers market scene kicks off for a hopeful and bountiful season.

“Not many items are ready yet, but we do have some items available,” said Jennifer Daiz, manager for the Colusa Farmers Market.

Opening last Thursday, the market had one fruit and vegetable vendor, with a great selection of early summer favorites. Ponce Farms from Delhi, California, brought sweet white peaches, apricots, pluots, and cherries. Rosita Farms had farm fresh eggs, and Premier Mushrooms had three types of mushrooms available. Jeffreys Pecans had toasted, flavored, plain, and shelled pecans. Garden Gleanings had a variety of flowers and plants.

“We invite everyone to come out, check out the market and support our vendors,” said Diaz.

As the season moves forward, Diaz hopes to see more vendors arrive as crops are ready for harvest.

“I hope to see other vendors return as well,” said Diaz.

The Colusa Farmers Market is held weekly on Thursday evenings from 4 PM to 7 PM in Veterans Memorial Park.

To contact Diaz for vending opportunities, call (415) 994-9082.

The Arbuckle Farmers Market is set to open June 14, from 5 PM to 7 PM in LaVanche Hursh Park in Downtown Arbuckle. The Market will repeat weekly on Wednesdays.

According to market manger Mary Fahey, they are currently accepting vendors. Call (530) 383-4625.

In addition to fruits, vegetables, and a variety of merchandise, the Arbuckle Farmers Market will feature a weekly dinner available from Market Street Grill, and from the Rise and Grind Coffee Shop.
