Pioneer Day harvests community spirit, a bountiful success

Celebrating its farmers who feed our families, the Williams Pioneer Day celebration went off without hitch.

“It was a great celebration,” said Citizens for a Better Williams President Pat Ash. “We are very thankful to have such wonderful participation in this years event.”

It was a cool summer day last Saturday, a day fit for a parade, community celebration, and fireworks.

“We had about 22 parade entries,” said Bruce Rollins, who participated as the parade’s master of ceremonies. “All of the floats were great this year.”

Some of the entires included a tractor display by Sutter Buttes Manufacturing, a soccer demonstration by the Youth Soccer Club, and young farmers from LizKidz showing their farming pride. Dr. Gill’s Dentistry was “All Smiles” for its community’s farmers.

“It was tough decision; they were all good,” said Serena Morrow, who helped judge the entries this year.

Parade judges also included Amanda Bell, Alyssa Rios, and Stephanie Juarez.

Taking first place for the Pioneer Day Parade was the Williams Fire Department, second place was Dr. Gill Dental, and in third place was LizKidz Child Care.

Finishing off the day of community spirit was the fireworks show sponsored by Morning Star Packing.

“We are very appreciative for the support we receive each year,” said Ash. “This is a community effort.”

Ash commented that the Citizens for a Better Williams would like to thank all those that participated in the parade, the vendors that participated in the vendor area, and all of various fire, police, and public works agencies.

“Many have said this was the best parade they have seen in years,” said Ash.

Mark your calendars for the Festival of Lights, on Saturday, Dec. 9.
