Over 150 attended the annual Veterans Picnic held Saturday hosted by the Maxwell American Legion Post 218 and the Colusa Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 2441.

The Barbecue took place at the Veterans Memorial Park where veterans, their families, and community members enjoyed a chicken and barbecue rib lunch prepared by Rocco’s Bar & Grill.

The veterans group took the time to raise awareness about the upcoming installation of its seventh tribute wall.

“We will begin installing the seventh panel this week,” said Colusa VFW Commander, Bill Tanner.

Tanner commented that the wall would be completed by Veterans Day when the group will read the names of those honored on the walls.

“We also plan to have the WWI and WWII sculpture panels affixed to the back of two panels by Veterans Day,” said Tanner.

“It is amazing to see the community is still excited about the progress of the wall, and the park,” said Tanner. “We have had great community support.”

Assemblymember James Gallagher attended the picnic Saturday and visited with veterans. Gallagher even participated in the raffle and silent auction, winning a Guided Salmon Fishing Trip from Russel Fusaro.

Tanner thanked everyone for attending and supporting the event. Funds raised during the picnic are used to help the veterans of Colusa County, to fill the individual needs of our veterans, and complete veteran community service projects.
