It’s official: the Colusa Crawdad Festival is back on and set to take place on a different date and at a new location.

Just a month after the Knights of Columbus Council 2145 announced in a social media post that the annual Colusa Crawdad Festival had been canceled, organizers are getting the word out that the popular event will, in fact, be taking place for the 12th straight year.

This year, the festival will take place on Main Street in Colusa – a departure from its regular venue at the Colusa County Fairgrounds – and will happen a week later than had initially been planned.

“We’re back on,” said Brendan Farrell, a Knights of Columbus member. “The festival is going to be on Main (Street) between Seventh and Eighth Streets.”

Farrell said the new location would be an easier space to fill and an appropriate venue for a crawdad festival, being as it is right along the river.

“It really goes with the whole vibe we’re looking for,” he added.

Typically held on the first Saturday in September, the date for the Colusa Crawdad Festival has been moved to the following Saturday, Sept. 9, from 4:30 to 9:30 PM.

While the location and the date are new, the food and the entertainment that have come to make the festival so popular in its dozen years of existence will remain the same, Farrell said.

After chowing down on a selection that will include crawdads, carnitas, ribs, etouffee, gumbo, and hot dogs, festival-goers can dance the night away on Main Street.

“We’re going to have two bands – one that we’ve had every year, and another that is yet to be announced,” said Farrell. “It’s going to be a great time, and the (Colusa County) Rugby Luau will be going on just down the street, so you can head down there after you get your crawdads.”
