Renovated storage facility opens in Arbuckle

David Kline, new owner of the renovated Arbuckle Mini Storage, celebrates the grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce on Aug. 8.

“David Kline looks at every challenge as a wonderful opportunity.”

Those were the words used by Joni Eareckson Tada, paraplegic radio host and founder of “Joni and Friends,” an organization accelerating Christian ministry in the disability community, when she wrote the forward to Kline’s book “Walk by Faith.”

Kline’s story recounts how a simple diving accident, which left him paralyzed from the neck down at the age of 17, changed his life. Although 30-years have passed since that summer’s day in 1987, 17 of which he served as an English teacher at his alma mater in Nevada City, Kline is still finding opportunity and success by taking on monumental challenges. He recently purchased and renovated the dilapidated Arbuckle Mini Storage on Olive Street, and has transformed it into a well-managed facility and a growing business he and the town can be proud of.

“I like supporting this town,” said Kline, at a grand opening ceremony held with the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce on Aug. 8. “It’s a good town and I’m glad I can do something nice for them.”

Kline said when he purchased the 202-unit storage facility, it was in pretty bad shape, as the former owners were unable to keep up with the maintenance of the property.

He has since re-graded and replaced gravel throughout the facility; added a new fence and automatic gate; installed new keypads, a security camera, and storage software; and established the website.

“I thought from the beginning that this was a diamond in the rough, and it was pretty rough,” Kline added. “But I’ve done a lot with it and it’s running pretty well. The occupancy has nearly doubled since I’ve owned it.”

Now at 60 percent occupancy, up from just 30 percent usage less than a year ago, storage in the Arbuckle area is available. The 3-acre property also has 40 RV and boat storage spaces, and a grain storage facility that is available for purchase or lease.

Kline’s book is also available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other locations.
