Colusa teens earn Eagle Scout Rank

Saturday afternoon, Sept. 9, two area teens were inducted into the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded by the Boy Scouts of America.

Tylor Gerrard, the son of Amy Gerrard, and Sam Stocks, the son of Kimberly and Steve Stocks, both members of Troop 5, received the Eagle honor. Both are current Colusa High School students.

The rank of Eagle demonstrates a significant amount of hard work on the part of the awardedee. Each scout had dozens of merit badges, as well as public service and organization achievements in preparing for the award.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Gerrard spent over 300 hours painting fire hydrants and installing hydrant markers around the City of Colusa; and Stocks spent over 500 hours replacing the dated playground trimming with a concrete barrier at Our Lady of Lourdes School. He also painted various playground equipment and benches at the school.

“I am proud of Tylor and Sam for all their hard work and dedication,” said Scoutmaster Amy Gerrard.

Gerrard said both teens had been with the troop since the first grade.

The Colusa Cub Scout Pack 5, will be hosting a picnic registration from 6 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Colusa Scout Cabin. Registration is open to boys aged 1st to 5th Grade. The cost is $50 a year with additional items/fees. For more information, contact Kat Medel (530) 923-6750.
