Support Colusa’s shelter animals at the Pet Portraits and Pet Fair

Colusa County Animal Control is sponsoring Pet Portraits and Pet Fair benefiting Friends of the Colusa County Animal Shelter (FOCCAS). This fun, furry event will be held Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Colusa scout cabin. All proceeds will be used to improve the lives of Colusa’s shelter animals.

Colusa resident Elvira Gutierrez of Elvira G Photography will be on hand to take portraits of pet animals from 9 AM to 2 PM. Last year’s subjects included a variety of dogs, a few cats, and even a horse.

A number of local, animal-loving vendors will be providing pet-related products and services. Griff’s Feed and Seed will return with some of the latest pet products for sale with part of the proceeds going to FOCCAS. Barky by Barnsmell is also returning with classy, handmade canine couture. Dr. Leroy Burnham will be available 11:30 AM to Noon to vaccinate and microchip dogs. Animal Control Officer Pam DaGrossa will answer questions and provide handouts to address a number of problem dog and cat behaviors.

For photographer Elvira Guttierez, Pet Portraits and Pet Fair allows her to contribute to her community by providing a way for people to honor their animals: “I donate my time to this event because it gives us a chance to come together and celebrate our fur babies. Often times we don’t realize how much our pets mean to us until they are gone and so sharing professional portraits of them has been very fun and fulfilling for me.”

Having a beautiful, professional photo of your pet can be functional, too. Chief Animal Control Officer Courtney Elliot says that people’s descriptions of lost pets “are often not how we would describe the pet.”  And many do not have good, clear photos. This makes identifying a lost pet difficult.

Portrait sessions typically take about 10 minutes. They may include only the pet or the pet and its human family members. Portraits will be downloadable from the photographer’s website approximately one week after the event. Because it is a digital file, people may do anything with the portrait: print them, put them on a t-shirt, or even have them printed on canvas. Arrangements can be made for those without Internet access.

Walk ups are welcome the day of the event. But pet owners are encouraged to schedule an appointment online at http://www.elviragphotography.com/event-registrations. One image is $30, two is $40, and three is $50. The Colusa scout cabin is located at 9th and Parkhill Streets.
