Holiday Craft Faire to ring in the Christmas spirit

Preparations are underway for the 31st annual Colusa Holiday Craft Faire and Gift Show.

The two-day event will be held at the Colusa County Fairgrounds from 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, Nov. 18 and Sunday, Nov. 19.

“We have more than 100 vendors, and we still have room for more,” said Araceli Plaza, primary organizer. “We are still accepting vendors, so they still have time to get their applications in.” The Fairgrounds resumed operations of the craft show in 2016, after many years of outsourcing the event to a private organizer.

And like the Colusa Farm Show, the Holiday Craft Faire now has a committee to help with the planning and will oversee the weekend event, with the help of the Junior Fair Board.

Laura Ford, interim chief executive officer, pitched the idea of a committee to the 44th District Agricultural Association at their October meeting.

“Having a committee takes a lot of pressure off the Fair Board,” Ford said.

The committee, which is comprised of Fairground officials and members of the community, plan to continue making the show an event people enjoy and look forward to year after year, Ford said.

Although the Craft Faire is always well attended, the role of the committee is to also come up with ideas that will bring more people out to the Colusa County Fairgrounds for the event.

This year, the committee will host a raffle of donated prizes to raise money for holiday decorations and attractions in the future that put people in the Christmas spirit. Vendors will be invited to donate a little something from their booths, which will be displayed in a decorated booth in Santa’s Village, in the Etchepare Garden.

“We have time to do that this year,” Plaza said. “Maybe next year, we can do something that inspires more community involvement.”

The Colusa Holiday Craft Faire and Gift Show has been a staple for pre-Thanksgiving shopping since 1986.

Shoppers will again enjoy an emporium of handmade crafts, holiday gifts, decorations, treats, and food booths.

“We really want to thank our returning vendors for their loyalty and support of the community,” Ford said. “We also want to welcome our new vendors. Together we hope to keep this tradition alive for many years to come.”

The committee will meet at 11 AM on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Colusa County Fairgrounds office, 1303 10th St., Colusa.
