Marion Seyferth (1920 – 2017)

Marion Toney Cooper Rahlfs Seyferth passed away peacefully on May 20, 2017 at Amber Grove Place in Chico, CA with family at her side.  She was born on July 29, 1920 to William E. and Inez Luce Toney in Reno, Nevada.  She lost her mother as an infant and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Helen (Luce) and Ernest Priday in Lakeview, Oregon until she graduated from elementary school.  She then moved to Lake City (Modoc County), CA to be near her father and graduated from Cedarville High School.  She spent the last two years of high school in the loving home of Irene and Ernest Grove in Eagleville, CA.

Following high school, Marion graduated from beauty school in Riverbank, California.  The Grove family moved to Willows, California and she rejoined their family there where she met and married Ralph Cooper in 1941.  They had two daughters, Sandra Schmidl and Karen Abel.  Ralph died in 1975.  She later married Horace Rahlfs of Willows who died in 1993.  After several years she moved to Carmel, California and married Harold Seyferth.  In 2000 they moved to Yuba City to be nearer to her family.  Harold died in 2002.

Her children and grandchildren were the focus and loves of her life and she was always so supportive of each one.  She was a shy, beautiful woman, an excellent gardener and could make anything grow and thrive.  Her fondest memories were the years of boating starting in the 50’s and continuing into the 60’s.  She became an excellent water skier and loved camping at lakes with her family.  She was very artistic and in her younger years drew beautiful delicate sketches.  She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority as a young woman and was later active in Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls while in Willows.

She leaves behind her two daughters, Sandra Schmidl (Robert) of Gridley and Karen Abel of Williams.  Grandchildren Kara Abel Alvernaz, Kristine Abel Ward, Michael Abel, Johnna Nissen Hensen, and Dane Nissen.  She also leaves 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; and her foster sister, Joyce Grove Volny.

The family would like to thank the staff of Amber Grove Place in Chico for the wonderful care this past year and a half.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
