Life as I see it (01/04/2017)

I always feel like the first day of the year is a new beginning: a clean slate, if you will.

“It is what it is,” I often say, but with the beginning of each new year, I take the time to ponder on what I might do with this new time ahead of me.

My life will change dramatically this year simply because I’m getting married after being alone for 15 years, but there is more.

We are each given opportunities every day. It is up to us to decide what we want to do with the time or the opportunities that come our way.

There is a lot of turmoil and sadness in our world these days. Again, “It is what it is”. It is up to us to decide how we will face the challenges in our lives. We are people of free will and freedom. It is up to us as to how we use it.

Our trip home from North Dakota was a challenge, but we made it. We missed our connection in Denver by “this much.”  It was the airline’s fault though, so they provided a hotel, food vouchers, and seats on the next morning flight.

Of course, we didn’t get a lot of sleep, so the day we both got to our houses we kind of crashed for a day.

All is good. On we go to the next new adventure.

We are starting to seriously plan the wedding now that the holiday travel is past. I admit that we are looking forward to the next trip to North Dakota in May because we will drive. We can go at our own pace, not worry about connections, snow, or missed flights.

Some of our California friends will be going to North Dakota for the wedding. We are very pleased about that.

Today I am at Nice, CA, where Tom and I will live after we are married. The prediction here for tomorrow is 1-3 inches of snow. It’s a rarity here, but it does happen, I should make it down the hill and back to the farm before it hits though.

Friday was a beautiful day here. It was in the upper 50s with the bright, shining sun. It was quite the change from the sometimes sub-zero weather and huge snowdrifts we saw in North Dakota last week.

With the new year here, I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life. I hope that each of you will find your path this year. Enjoy what comes your way. If there are trials to face remember this; “. . .do not be anxious about anything, but everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be known to God” – Philippians 4:6.

This has been my “go-to” verse for as long as I can remember.

Life is good today.
