Life as I see it (06/14/2017)

It occurred to me on June 10 that it was the 51st anniversary of my graduation from high school. Why I’ve never forgotten that date is a mystery to me.

Within in a couple of days, my friend Sue sent to me a photograph of herself and me that was taken about a year before my middle child Tiffany was born.

The good part of the story is that back in the day I looked a lot like Tiffany does now.

The good part was for me. I was pretty like Tiffany back then. It’s debatable how Tiffany feels, since she looks at me now and can see what might be in store for her one day.

So, I realized I’d been out of high school for 51 years. I’m wondering if that makes me old.

Yes, I’m pretty sure that it does make me seasoned, aged, etc., but I’m hoping I have done it with a bit of grace.

I look around at the folks I went to high school with, and they don’t seem old at all.

The one hint (aside from the occasional ache and pain) is my short temper attitude. I tend to let things bug me more than they used to bug me.

It especially hits home when I’m driving.

Three days a week I make the commute from Lake County to Colusa County. The entire trip is on winding roads. It’s the same road that my dear friend almost lost her life on a few years back, so I tend to be careful on the route.

I pretty much drive the speed limit, pull onto the turnouts if cars are behind me, and try to not be an obstruction to others.

There’s always that one driver. These people tailgate you no matter what, and tend to whip around you and pass at high speeds even when it isn’t safe. There have been any numbers of near misses I’ve seen in the last 7 months that I’ve been making the drive.

I’d rather live, so I just get out of the way.

We attended the Colusa County Fair last week. Honestly, we were only there a couple of nights for a couple of events, but overall it looked like there was a lot going on. We especially liked country singer Chad Bushnell. We bought three of his CDs and wondered why he isn’t moving on up faster. The kid is good, and the guitar pickin’ is beyond good.

I looked him up on iTunes and his CDs are available there if you want to take a listen.

This is shaping up to be a crazy summer. It is cool if not cold, and there was even snow in the Sierras over the weekend. It’s crazy to think its mid-June and still chilly.

Also, we have the boat in the water, but we still haven’t taken it out. I’m hoping it warms up a bit. We have family coming out in July and they love to be in the water. We don’t want to disappoint our granddaughter. Lea learned last summer to jump into the lake from the boat. She was like a little fish jumping in and out of the water time and time again. I can’t wait to get her back here for more fun.

So, if I’m getting old, that’s ok. Being old means you get to do pretty much what you want to do, but best of all it means you get to spoil those grandbabies.

Life is good today.
