Life as I see it: 07/12/2017

So I have more time now to do other things. The first “other” thing I did was in the heat last week when I mowed most of a 1.5-acre lot.
Tom helped and mowed part of it and pulled a lot of weeds.
Thank goodness we have a riding mower, but even at that, the battery was dead when we arrived to do the job.
Since it is an hour and a half drive to get to the lot outside Grimes, we didn’t want to waste time or the gas money.
Brother-in-law Samuel came with a mini-charger and got us up and running.
It was a hot job that day, and it took us almost 4 hours to complete it, but by the end of our time there we had it looking pretty good.
It doesn’t hurt any of us to get hot and dirty. Besides, when you finish the job, you feel like you’ve done something.
I figure if we mow once a month that it won’t get away from us again.
The next logical step is to sell the place. None of us have a use for 1.5 acres with a shop on it. In an agriculture area, someone might. Guess we’ll see.
The next day, we drove back to the valley, and we unloaded everything I had left in storage at my office building. There wasn’t a great deal of stuff, but it had to be moved nonetheless. Again, it was a bloody hot day. Again, we got it done.
At first, I was feeling a bit like Wonder Woman, but now I’m just tired and crabby.
Today I’m cooking comfort food, and I’m staying in the house with good air conditioning.
I even declined a trip to the lake. It’s just too hot to enjoy it.
Next week I have a “pamper” day planned. Again, I’ll go the valley, but I’ll get nails and hair done and then on to a facial. It is pure indulgent behavior, and I’m OK with that.
I figure when you have worked as long and as hard as I have you might be entitled to a few perks of old age.
I don’t drink much or smoke at all. I do very few “me” things, so my needs are few.
We had a wonderful time when my girls visited last week.
Granddaughter Lea is like a little fish in the water. She rarely got tired. She said her favorite part was Papa Tom’s boat and jumping off of the side of it into the lake. She amazes me. She just kept jumping in, swimming back to the boat and doing it again. She never seems to get tired. Plus, she is far braver than I. You’d never catch me jumping off that boat.
Good for her. I’m happy we can show her such a good time when she visits us.
I’m tired, crabby and still blessed. Life is still good today.
