Life as I see it: 07/19/2017

I’ve set a few retirement goals for myself.
You know when you are working full time, you tell yourself that when I don’t work anymore, I’ll do this, I’ll do that,
I have told myself that for a lot of years. Since I worked from age 13 until just recently, that has been a lot of years of woulda-coulda-shouldas in my lifetime.
I’ve never been happy with the way things went south and plumped on this old body of mine. In fact, I can’t remember (even when I was considered thin by some) a time when I was totally happy with the way I looked.
So, I figure now is the time to do something about it.
I had a talk with my friend Dennis who is buff and beyond, and I told him for the first part of my life I’ve lived with “problem” areas. Now is the time to work toward making that better.
Last week, Tom added me to his gym membership. So far I’ve gone twice and will continue to go. They say you become a little addicted to the workout and I can see how that might happen. It feels great when you’re done and you realize you made an effort to help yourself.
Goal one on the self-improvement agenda is to tighten up my chubby arms so that I can wear sleeveless tops. I haven’t done that for a lot of years and if I’m going to live in California I’d like to be able to do that.
If along the way I get rid of my tummy, that would be great, too.
Now I have no excuses. Gotta do it.
Today our good friends Christy and Gilbert stopped by for a visit. These two are special people in my life and in my heart. We were friends in high school, and it is so good to still have them in my life. Tom enjoys them too, so that makes it even better.
It’s been a good week for friends. Our friend Gary visited California from his new home in Georgia this week. We met him and his lady Katherine for dinner.
It was our first meeting with Katherine and I’d say she is hand picked for our Gary. It makes me happy to see him smile.
This weekend we were able to take grandson Eddie to the lake with us. It was a lot of fun and Eddie also helped Tom with a few things there.
One project was to apply orange flames on the yellow golf cart. If you can’t visualize that one, just close your eyes and imagine you see it, but then add bright orange upholstery on the seats. Yep, that’s coming next.
We spent most of the day on the beach though, and I have to admit, the sun got to this old girl. I’m not usually one to take a nap, but I did that day.
All in all it was a good couple of days. We enjoy seeing Eddie enjoy himself. It helps that he’s a really good kid.
Life is good today and I suspect it might get better.
