Life as I see it (11/01/2017)

Home Opinions Life as I see it (11/01/2017)

My folks’ former caregiver Carol and I go on an annual adventure. We usually go in August, but this year it will be October. So the time is at hand for our annual 2-day get-a-way to celebrate Carol’s birthday.

This year, we are headed to Fort Bragg  with a couple of days coming and going spent at our house in Nice since it’s on the way.

Carol has done so much for my family, loved us like we were her own family, and never let us down. Thus, a once-a-year trip with her is a special event indeed.

You don’t often meet folks who are willing to help you when the times are tough. Carol is one of those people.

Dad’s other caregiver, Dave, is another one of those people.

I have learned a lot about giving when you don’t have and giving when you do have from both of these people. Those are useful lessons to live by.

As predicted, we started cleaning our parents’ house out this past week. It is going to take several more trips to the valley and several more days to finish the job. But, we will finish.

Speaking of people who help just because they want to help, Miguel around the corner from the folks’ house stopped by and offered to help us as well. It is much appreciated.

Going through this house that a couple lived in for 70 plus years is quite a task. But, we have managed not to let it overwhelm us. We have, room by room, worked through the accumulation of years of a house lived in and then years sitting empty.

We can do this.

We celebrated Tom’s birthday with lunch with my sister Ann and brother-in-law Samuel at Rocco’s on the River. Then Tom and I stayed at the Colusa Casino Resort Hotel for three nights while we made the daily trip to Grimes to work on the house.

Believe me, we slept like proverbial “rocks” at the end of the day. I did a lot of loading and lifting, so my poor old body was pretty beat up by the time I finished each day. See, Wonder Woman is still in there.

We had a chance to have dinner with our friend Carolan on one of the nights we stayed there.

The thing I miss most about not living in Colusa County anymore is the loss of time with my friends and family. I still feel that way about not living in North Dakota, too. I guess that would explain my many visits to each place.

Of course, it is the time of year where we are gearing up for Christmas in North Dakota.

I hear it snowed there this morning.

I love a white Christmas, but honestly, I hope it’s not entirely as white as last year, and the snow drifts aren’t quite as high.

Meanwhile, life is good today.
