Life as I see it (12/13/2017)

California Christmas is done, and now on to North Dakota.

We enjoyed our annual holiday celebration with my sister and brother-in-law this past weekend when they visited us here on the hill.

To our surprise, they brought to us my dad’s musical clock. It touched my heart that they would share that with us. It was purchased for my dad by them years ago. It hung in the folks’ living room, and now it plays its music in ours. It makes me feel good.

We also had our annual California Christmas with Tom’s son Ed and family.

This was special to us because their son Eddie is a darling sweet spirited boy and we were able to give him something he really wanted; a bike.

The look on his face when Tom rolled the bike into the house was worth any effort on our part.

He’s a good boy with good ambitions. I feel blessed that I got this new grandson when I joined Tom’s family.

Now it’s on to first Montana and then to North Dakota. We leave Thursday morning on a flight to Billings where we will spend the night with dear friends Lyn and Ken. It is always a good time with these two.

On Friday we will drive a rental car to Beach, ND. God willing the weather stays good, and the roads will be good as well. I’ve been doing some big time praying about this one. I always know (as I’ve been reminded a lot recently) that God’s got this. We’ll be fine.

I miss my kids and grandbabies year around, so the time we have with them at Christmas is just the best.

Today we are packing and re-packing in an effort to get the weight of our bags just right. We have learned that in the past we have taken way more than we need on any trip we take. Our goal is to do better this time.

As we get older, we have begun to realize that life is a challenge on many levels. I’ve noticed that some things aren’t as important as they once seemed. I can travel with fewer changes of outfits, I’ve cut my hair short so I use less product in it, and I’ve cut back on the number of accessories I tote along. Who knew one basic black winter scarf was enough? I don’t have to have matching ones for every wardrobe change.

I all fairness to me, I have to say Tom is a little worse than I am. He has asked me to help him with the re-packing and eliminating from his bag today. At least he knows what he’s doing. That’s a sign of a good man.

So off we go. We are headed home to North Dakota and the pleasure of being with our family and the anticipation of seeing old friends.

Life is good today. n
