Colusa hosts Volleyball Camp

More than two dozen Colusa Unified School District youth wrapped up five days of Volleyball Camp at Egling Middle School on Thursday. Under the direction of Tina Lyons, the students, ages 7-14, learned and practiced serving, setting, and spiking the ball. Both Egling and Colusa High School offers the sport, which was invented by William G. Morgan in 1895, just four years after the invention of basketball. The game, originally called mintonette, was designed to be a combination of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball. The City of Colusa Parks and Community Services also sponsored a basketball camp this month. Next up is the Colusa Soccer Camp, July 11-15. First kick starts at 9 AM for ages 3-4-year-olds. Mini Soccer, for ages 4-6 is held 10 AM to Noon. Half-day camp for ages 6-13 is 9 AM to Noon. Register online at www.challangersport.com or call Ally at (916) 596-1694 or Jenny at 458-5622, ext. 101.
