Football

Colusa – 41, Lindhurst – 8

Still down four two-way starters and coming off a 41-21 loss to East Nicolaus, the RedHawks returned home on Friday to play host to the Blazers and bounced back in a big way with a 41-8 victory.

Shane Calcagno led Colusa with 99 yards on 12 carries, and added 24 yards and a touchdown receiving. Quarterback Conner Saso only threw five passes in the game, but made his opportunities count: Saso completed three of his passes, two of which went for scores – including the one to Calcagno and another to tight end Gerry Moreno – and had another touchdown and 32 yards on the ground.

Also scoring for the RedHawks were running backs Poli Pulido and Brett Betsekas.

On defense, Raymond Frias snagged an interception, defensive ends Gerry Moreno and Rafael Manjarrez each notched a sack, and Jovani Cervantes led Colusa in tackles with eight.

Next up, Colusa (2-1) hosts Durham (3-0) at 7 PM on Friday.

Princeton – 12, Big Valley – 50

The impact of losing a player to injury is compounded in eight-man football – especially when the injured player in question had single-handedly accounted for 86 percent of their team’s total offensive yardage and every touchdown in the first two games.

Absent star quarterback Manuel Espinoza, Princeton hung tight with Big Valley until the intermission, heading into the half down 14-6. Filling in at quarterback for Espinoza was Joey Willis, who connected with Shane Irish for a score in the first half. After the break, Princeton struggled to keep pace with defending section champions Big Valley, and the Cardinals cruised to a 50-12 victory.

Princeton travels to Herlong on Friday to take on the Vikings. Kickoff is set for 1 PM.
