All-League Honors: 17 football players named to Sacramento Valley, Mid-Valley all-league teams


Pierce’s Dutch Kalfsbeek, Hector Rodriguez named SVL MVP’s

Dutch Kalfsbeek and Hector Rodriguez – the offensive and defensive MVP’s for the Sacramento Valley League – headline a total of nine players from the SVL Champion Pierce Bears, who earned all-SVL nods for their accomplishments in the 2017 season.

Kalfsbeek was the engine that made the Bears’ prolific offense go this season. In 11 games, the senior quarterback threw for 831 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed for 1,040 yards and 18 scores. Rodriguez was a stalwart on the Bears’ defensive line who led Pierce in sacks with eight, and finished third with 77 total tackles.

Among Pierce’s other all-league selections were Curtis Vaughn, Alexandro Velazquez, Joe Diaz, Tommy Davis, Levi Kalfsbeek, Gabe Villa, and Matthew Tapia. First-year head coach Michael Barber was named as the SVL’s coach of the year.

Colusa, which finished second in the SVL this season, had six selections to the all-league team. Among them were Leo Guzman, Sam Stocks, Brendan Garcia, Conner Saso, Jovani Cervantes, and Wade Townsend.

Williams had two players named to the all-MVL team – Jorge Rodriguez and Anthony Davalos. ■
