Girls Basketball: Lady Yellowjackets not short on varsity experience

After a pair of rebuilding years, Lane Bledsoe is entering his third season coaching Williams High School’s varsity girls basketball team.

Four of Bledsoe’s starting five have been with him the whole way. Returning for their third year of varsity are seniors Julie Alcarez, Laura Davalos, Natalie Del Horno, and junior Barbara Bledsoe.

The Lady Yellowjackets have already picked up their first victory of 2017-18, prevailing by a score of 34-23 last Tuesday in Princeton. They followed up with a three-day trek to Biggs over the weekend for the Mel McLaughlin Tournament, losing games to Hamilton and Mercy.

Williams notched five victories and a playoff berth last season, and the Yellowjackets are hoping their team’s experience will lead to more success.

Though Daniela Plaza and Lisette Chavez have graduated, the Lady Yellowjackets have seven returners from last season, six of them seniors.

Airaly Rolon, Giselle Davalos, and Yesenia Orosco will provide senior leadership along with the three-year veterans.

The Lady Yellowjackets (1-3) have a cross-county matchup this week in Colusa, and also look forward to a tournament in Elk Creek later in the month before jumping into Mid-Valley League action in January.
