Missing senior found after wrong way driver report

On June 17, at approximately 2:05 AM, the California Highway Patrol began receiving calls of a wrong way driver, driving south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, just south of E street in Williams.

“Officers observed two vehicles driving the wrong way, with the first vehicle matching the description of the original call, the second vehicle was traveling alongside the first vehicle in the center median,” said Officer Franco Castillo, CHP Public Information Officer.

Castillo said that CHP Officers accelerated ahead of the wrong way driver and maneuvered their patrol vehicle in front of the wrong way driver and slowly escorted the vehicle to a stop.

“Officers contacted an elderly driver who appeared to be confused and disoriented,” he said.

After a license check, the driver was identified as, Marlene D. Kjelmyr, of Casto Valley, CA, a missing person out of Alameda County with an active silver alert.

“Kjelmyer was transported with her vehicle back to the CHP Williams Office where she was give given water and a comfortable chair,” he said. “She completed crossword puzzles as she waited for her worried family members to pick her up.”

“Thankfully no one was injured during this incident,” said Castillo. “The CHP would like to thank the citizens who quickly contacted 911 and reported the wrong way driver.”■
