Supes award $2.7 million contract for roadwork

The Board of Supervisors approved a $2.7 million contract with Knife River Construction for the reconstruction of just under 14 miles of roadway in unincorporated Colusa County.

“These services are much needed to help keep the surfaces safe for all those that travel on our county roads,” said Debbie Hickel, the county’s procurement coordinator, who was speaking on behalf of the Colusa County Public Works Department.

A total of seven contractors submitted bids in response to the county’s Request for Bids (RFB), of which six were considered responsive. Knife River was the lowest responsive bidder, Hickel said.

The board approved the contract in a 3-0-2 decision, with supervisors Kim Vann and Kent Boes absent.

The work will include 5.7 miles of Leesville Road, west of Williams, beginning at the start of the Leesville Grade to the east and ending on Leesville-Lodoga road to the west; 1.8 miles of East Park Road, which leads into the Stonyford side of the East Park Reservoir; two sections of Lurline Road for a total of 0.8 miles; 2.9 miles of Ohm Road and 2.6 miles of Bailey Road to the northeast of Arbuckle.

According to Scott Lanphier, director of the county’s public works department, the work approved by the board last week was from a separate pot than the Senate Bill 1 funds coming the county’s way, which will be put toward repaving Norman Road in Princeton. ■
