Colusa City Council swears in three members

Two familiar members on the Colusa City Council and one new member took their places on the dais on Dec. 4.

Colusa City Clerk Shelly Kittle administered the oath of office to newcomer Brent Nobles, who ran solo in the Nov. 6 general election for a two-year term, and incumbent Tom Reische and appointed-incumbent Josh Hill, who won their election bids for four-year terms.

“This is my last stint,” Reische said. “I know I said that before but this time I really mean it. I promise.”

Reische has served on the Colusa City Council, including multiple terms as mayor, since he was first elected in 2006.

Hill was appointed by the City Council in March to replace the late Councilman Kirk Kelleher, who died unexpectedly last January.

Nobles is a local business owner. He will have the option to run for reelection in 2020.

“It seems a little unreal right now, but I hope I do this position justice for the people and the town,” said Nobles, after taking a seat vacated minutes earlier by David Womble. “I appreciate everyone who voted for me.”

Hill also thanked the voters for electing him to his first full term.

The reorganization of the City Council – an end of the year ritual – went off with less fanfare than the swearing in ceremony.

Colusa Mayor Greg Ponciano was unanimously selected by the council to continue serving at the helm in 2019. Reische will serve as mayor pro-tem.

“Sitting in the center seat comes with a few challenges, but I truly take it very seriously and I enjoy it,” Ponciano said. “I hope to continue on with the good work we have been doing.”

The City Council will meet Dec. 18, at which time they will reorganize their committee appointments. â–
