Two Colusa residents die in Sutter County crash

Two unidentified Colusa residents died in a five-vehicle collision Saturday morning on the Sutter Causeway west of Yuba City on Highway 20, reported the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP, at about 10 AM, a Meridian man, Jacob Correia, 18, was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition westbound on Highway 20 at a high rate of speed and struck the rear end of a 2015 GMC Sierra truck driven by Cody Arnold, 34, of Yuba City. The Expedition then swerved into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 1998 Chevy S10 pickup.

A 48-year-old Colusa man and a 58-year old Colusa woman in the Chevy S10 pickup succumbed to fatal injuries on scene. The names were not released at the time of press. The driver of the Expedition, Correia, was taken to Rideout Hospital with major injuries, and the driver of the 2015 GMC Sierra truck, Arnold, had no injuries, the CHP said.

Two other vehicles were involved in the crash: a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by John Moell, 19, of Redding; and a Kubota Farm Tractor operated by Travis Perse, 25, of Sutter. They suffered no injuries. ■
