NEWSPAPER PUBLISHED WEEKLY ON WEDNESDAY - WEBSITE UPDATED THURSDAY

88th Maxwell Rodeo to ride in this Saturday

The Maxwell High School Rodeo will get underway on Saturday as the longest-running community event in Colusa County.

“Don’t Be Late, It’s Going To Be Great At Rodeo #88” is the theme chosen for the daylong event, which gets started with the 5K Bull Run in downtown Maxwell at 8 AM, followed by a parade, car show, and rodeo activities that will last well into the late afternoon.
Saturday morning entries for the Bull Run, Parade and Car Show will be accepted, organizers said, and the community has been working hard to make all the events successful.

“Everything is going great and the high school kids are doing an amazing job with their committees,” said Rodeo Advisor Kyle Miller. “Our community volunteers have really stepped up this year to make this event great.”

The parade gets underway about 9:45 AM with about 50 entries, including the United States Air Force Jazz Band, in honor of Armed Forces Day, which since 1949 celebrates the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense.

The Horse Show, Car Show, and Art Show begin at 11 AM.

Car Show organizer Randy Wilson expects about 225 antique and classic cars to be on display, with at least one spectacular surprise entry.

The Chuck Wagon will open at 11:30 AM for lunch, and various vendors will have merchandize and refreshments for sale.

The Frog Derby and Sonny Soto Memorial Bench Press Competition starts at noon, although weight lifters need to arrive early to register.

The rodeo grand entry will be at 1 PM with events for youth and adults. The art show is all day.

As the day comes to an end, the Maxwell Parks and Recreation District will host a dance to DJ One at the American Legion Hall in downtown Maxwell.

Doors open at 8 PM. You must be 21 or older to attend. Tickets are $10 at the door. The dance is a fundraiser to help keep the pool open this summer, Miller said.

“We hope to see everyone there,” said Miller. ■
