New local meat market opens in Colusa

Looking for fresh cuts of meat? Need to order a rack of ribs or tri-tip for your next BBQ?

Look no further than, veteran-owned business, Colusa Meat Market.

Frustrated with insufficient options for fresh cuts of meat, Colusa’s retired Marine Corps Cpl. Juan Hernandez, and his wife Elizabeth embarked on the opportunity to provide a service to the community.

“We were sad to see Chung Sun’s close,” said Juan. “It was the place where people went for fresh meat.”

After weeks of planning the couple opened Colusa Meat Market at 624 Fremont Street in Colusa, on Saturday, May 5.

“We provide Angus prime quality beef, and quality cuts of pork and chicken, as well as seafood,” said Elizabeth. “If we don’t have it we’ll order it.”

The couple emphasized that the market looks to provide both American and Mexican Cuts of meet.

“This isn’t another Mexican Meat Market,” said Juan. “We’re here to provide products to everyone in the community.”

In addition to the vast selection at the meat counter, Colusa Meat Market provides fresh fruits, and vegetables.

“We are focusing on local products as well,” Juan said. “We are working with local producers to sell their locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables.”

“We are also working with a couple beef producers,” Elizabeth said. ““We’re in the process of growing our inventory and look for feedback from our customers. We want to sell the products they want.”

The Veteran owned company aims high at customer service, and everything fresh.
“We even make our own ceviche, and chorizo,” said Juan. “It’s very popular.”

The couple would like to thank their customers, and their parents Juan Manuel and Consuelo Hernandez, and Alex and Grace Anaya (proprietors of Don Habanero’s restaurant) for all their support in the startup of their business.

“Our families have been a big help,” Elizabeth said.
