Maxwell Country Christmas to roll in on Saturday

Something about pancakes for dinner, hot chocolate on a cold evening, bright lights of red, gold, and green, holiday music, photos with Santa Claus, and popcorn smothered in caramel warms the heart, especially at Christmastime.

Maxwell’s Country Christmas will return this Saturday with its fabulous light parade beginning at 6 PM.

This is the third annual event, which is a fundraiser for the Maxwell Parks and Recreation Auxiliary Committee, a non-profit formed earlier this year under the Community Foundation of Colusa County to raise money to help support the MPR District and recreational activities in Maxwell.

Vendors booths will be open before (5 PM) and after the parade selling food, handmade items, gift items such as beauty and nail products, reclaimed wood signs, soap and sugar scrubs, and much more, said committee member Samantha Wilkens.

“There will be selfies with Santa Claus at the Maxwell Fire Department,” Wilkens said.

Just as Maxwell residents attended the Christmas Tyme in Colusa celebration last Friday and Williams Festival of Lights on Saturday, the Auxiliary Committee hopes people from all over Colusa County will attend the Christmas event in Maxwell.

“We need people to come out and support the vendors, because without vendors we don’t have an event,” Wilkens said.

As long as Maxwell’s County Christmas continues to be a success, MPR and the Auxiliary will continue to add new activities to the Christmas celebration every year.

“People love tradition, but not necessarily the same thing,” Wilkens said. “We want this event to continue to evolve.”

Participants in the light parade, including decorated tractors, vehicles, and ATVs are welcome to register the night of the event. Maxwell Country Christmas also includes the lighting of the town Christmas tree. The Stardust Dance Competition Team will also perform.

This is a rain or shine event, but Saturday is expected to be clear between showers on Friday and Sunday. ■
