Gerald (Jerry) Yarwood (1937-2018)

Gerald (Jerry) Yarwood went to be with the Lord Friday night, March 30, 2018. At age 80, surrounded by family at home, Jerry succumbed to the effects of lung cancer. Jerry lived a full and happy life, which started May 14, 1937 in San Francisco California. At 14, Jerry’s parents, Harold and LeNette Yarwood and his younger brother Bob, moved to Elk Creek California. In this small foothills community west of Willows, Jerry developed a love for hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors. After graduating from Elk Creek High School, Jerry graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Chico. His final year in college he fell head over heels in love with freshman, Betty Arrendale of Forbestown, California. They married April 1, 1961. Since Jerry was now stationed at Fort Belvoir Virginia, he and Betty moved to Virginia immediately after the wedding. There Jerry served as a sergeant and engineering instructor for the Army.

Upon completing his term of service, Jerry and Betty and their first child moved to Missouri where Jerry worked for an engineering company. They welcomed their second child into the world and decided to return to California to raise their children near family. They settled in Colusa and a year later welcomed their third child. Jerry often said Colusa was not only a great place to raise a family, but the perfect place to hunt and fish. After five-years as a Quality Control Engineer for General Cable Corporation, Jerry left corporate life to pursue a career in Insurance sales. Jerry then spent the rest of his work-life writing insurance for local farmers and towns people in Colusa County. He loved the work, the people, and the freedom to be outdoors.  Jerry developed a successful and satisfying sales career until he retired in 2004.

Jerry’s life in Colusa was filled with many dear friends, mornings duck hunting with his kids before work and school, evenings golfing with friends, and attending many social events with his wife Betty through her 50-year participation in the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Jerry was a member of the Colusa Golf and Country Club for many years. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, serving as President of Rotary, and as Treasurer and Deacon for First Presbyterian Church of Colusa. Very devoted to his family, Jerry is survived by his wife Betty of 57-years, children Le Nette (George) Morgan, Spencer (Jenni) Yarwood, and Ryan Yarwood; as well as grandchildren Cody (Katie), AJ, Austin, Tatum, Jace Yarwood, Garrett Morgan, and great-grandchild Robyn Yarwood. Jerry’s parents and brother preceded him in death.
