Donald Ferraiuolo (1941-2018)

After a long and valiant battle with cancer, Donald Allan Ferraiuolo of Colusa, Winters, and Dillon Beach, California, died on November 13, 2018.  His wife, Sally, was at his side.

Don was born on October 24, 1941, to Irene and Frank Ferraiuolo in Colusa, California.   He was educated in Colusa public schools, and after graduating, studied at Yuba College CSU, Chico, and Fresno where he earned his BS in agronomy.  He continued his education at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, earning a Master of Arts in Agriculture Education.   

Don’s professional career began as an Agriculture teacher at Ripon High School.  His teaching career was interrupted by a 4-year tour of duty in the US Air Force, stationed in Ramstein, Germany serving in Veterinary Service.  He returned to civilian service at Yuba College where he taught and worked for 28 years.  At Yuba College he began as an Agriculture instructor and moved into management roles, supervising and coordinating a variety of projects and grants.  One such grant was the Mentor Teacher Grant in which Don provided guidance and support to colleagues in adjusting to their new environment and the internal workings of the college.  During his tenure at the college, Don was bestowed with the honors of both a Carl D. Perkins Fellow and a Paul Harris Fellow.   He retired in 2003 as Dean of Vocational Education and Economic Development.  

He was a member of several professional and fraternal organizations, including the Small Farm Council, State of California, Rotary Club of Yuba City, Ducks Unlimited, California Young Farmers and he served as a Director of the Sutter County Resource Conservation District, and was Director of Yuba Sutter United Way 1989-1992.

He leaves behind his wife, Sally Jones Paul, (who was his high school sweetheart) and her sons and their families.  Don and Sally married in 2005 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  He is also survived by his brother Jildo Ferraiuolo and his family.

Graveside services will be held at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery 17451 Wescott Road Colusa CA, at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 26, 2018. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Yuba Community College District (YCCD) Foundation for Donald Ferraiuolo Agricultural Scholarship. (District Office 425 Plumas St.  Yuba City, CA. 95991).
