I’ve come to appreciate many things in my lifetime. I know I go on about the blessings of family and friends.
At the top of my list of things I appreciate are those people I love and especially the ones that love me back.
Since we’ve been in North Dakota these last few weeks, I’ve again been reminded of my blessings.
Tom has been working on the landscape of our little house here. From time to time when I go out to check on him I sit on the front porch and I am reminded. I am reminded of days gone by and of the pleasure to simply sit on a front porch. It’s a kind of peace.
I think we all need to take time to sit on a porch and do nothing every now and again.
We’ve spent time driving in the Badlands. The beauty out there is another reminder of how we are all blessed with things created around us. Sadly in today’s rushed world we don’t often enough take time to enjoy it.
I’ve said for a long time that it is the simple gifts that mean the most.
There is also joy in children. This week two of my grandkids with birthdays got new bikes. I remembered the Christmas my sister and I got our bikes. It gives the child this sense of freedom and joy all wrapped into one.
Those of you who know me well know that I like to direct and that I like to do things on my own when I can.
I’ve come to realize I have passed that trait on to my kids. Aside from me not getting to direct, it makes me feel good to know I’ve raised a group of survivors.
Things are never easy for anyone, but if you keep trying you will survive.
Then, you’ll realize; Life is good today.
