Whats your plan (12/26/2018)

Christmas 2018 is in the books, even if it’s only one day out!  If I was the gambling type, we could start a pool to see when we next hear ‘only ??? days left until Christmas.’  I lost count of how many times I’ve heard “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause” this season, not because I ran out of fingers and toes but because it was just over played.  Unfortunately for me, the song will now live on in infamy at the expense of one who is near and dear to me.  There will be no possible way for me to describe the look on her face nor the reaction that came over me when she connected the dots.  “It’s Daddy!  All these years I have been thinking Mommy’s been cheating on Daddy.  Mommy’s kissing Daddy!”  It will ever be one of my tender mercies.  It was priceless!  I am pondering what this means for our loving home.

Carolyn Cole was one of those at the pulpit for the Sunday Sacrament Service.  We had a wonderful worship reflecting on Jesus Christ and Christmas; our local ‘music and the spoken word.’  She had a suggestion for making the best of the season in three points.  First, count your blessings.  Second, ponder Jesus Christ!  Third, create a holiday tradition.  I feel that she just might be on to something.  Twenty-five years ago, I was invited to participate in one family’s Christmas Eve.  Their tradition included clam chowder.  Many things have changed since then.  Their children have grown and have children of their own.  I have children!  I wasn’t thinking that back then.  I certainly would have missed out on something extraordinary if I hadn’t.  Somethings don’t, clam chowder will be on the menu at my friend’s home and there will be grandchildren in abundance.  What an influence they have been in my life!  I will be adding clam chowder to the Arens’ Family Christmas eve tradition.  I am honored to say that I will be relying on their family recipe.

A Christmas is behind us and a new year is but a few days ahead.  Again, it would have been to our advantage not to have any debt hanging over our heads from Christmas.  We would be better off financially and emotionally.  So, what is your plan for the coming year?  Good ol’ New Year’s Resolutions are upon us!  I think I belong to a select group of people who will tell you that goals are good and that you need them.  One of my goals this year is to get that group larger; be a member of the group.  I invite you to make 2019 the best year ever – MAKE A PLAN!

Your comments are always appreciated and can be left at  Happy New Year!
