Maxwell Softball: Panthers start strong, falter on Saturday in own tournament

Maxwell softball held their annual tournament last Friday and Saturday, welcoming six teams: Central Valley, Biggs, Chester, Fall River, Modoc and Quincy. The Panthers finished with two wins and three losses.

On Friday, the Panthers opened up their tournament against rival Biggs and finished victorious,12-8. They rounded up a second win over Chester with a final score 10-0. Doubles by Hannah Azevedo, Laynee Haywood and Grace Waddel aided in Maxwell’s win over the Volcanoes.

Faced with pitching troubles, the Panthers fell behind early in their last game against Modoc and never recovered, losing 3-8. A bevy of errors and struggles from the mound hurt the Panthers in their next two games against Quincy and Fall River, which the Panthers lost 0-13 and 0-10, respectively. Maxwell (3-7) heads to Biggs tomorrow for the start of the Biggs Tournament.■
