Colusa County baseball, softball players named to all-league teams

A total of 19 of the county’s best baseball and softball players were named to their respective All-League teams this year.

Colusa High School’s baseball team led the county with four All-League selections, after finishing their season 23-10 and finishing second to Winters in the Sacramento Valley League. Those RedHawks were freshman Drew Bradbury, sophomore Cody Free, junior Blake Steidlmayer, and senior Raymond Frias. No one from Pierce was named to the All-SVL team.

Williams’ lone All-Mid-Valley League selection was Hunter Povlsen.

Maxwell had a trio of players who received All-Mountain Valley League honors this season, including Angel Velazquez, a senior. Velazquez was joined by juniors Vincent Ferrara and Cody Pearson.

Softball

Colusa County was better represented in the all-league teams for softball. Colusa led the pack with five all-league selections after finishing their season 21-7-2, and 7-1 in league play, splitting the SVL crown with Willows. Addie Taylor, Ashley Huff, Josie Garofalo, and Merissa Almeda – all seniors – earned All-SVL honors, as did jnior Abby Huskey.

Two Pierce players were named to the All-SVL team – senior Lauren Ornbaun and sophomore Emily Ehrke. The Lady Bears finished their season 7-12, and went 2-6 in SVL play.

Maxwell had three softball players named All-Mountain Valley League, including Brenda Cano and Grace Waddell, both seniors, and freshman Morgan Dennis. Maxwell finished their season 13-15, with a 4-4 record in league play.

Williams’ Marlen Salazar earned All-Mid-Valley League honors for the Lady ‘Jackets, who finished with just one win on the season.
