The Colusa varsity volleyball team had to work a little bit harder to get a win against Live Oak this time around, but still swept the Lions 3-0 on Thursday evening.
Colusa won by scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-9. Colusa’s assistant coach Kim Roper said that the Lions were much improved since the last time the two teams met on Sept. 19.
In the first game, Colusa were up 15-11 before they hit their stride and expanded their lead to as much as nine. The set ended on a Sophia Stocks block, giving Colusa a one-game advantage.
Colusa jumped ahead 15-9 in the second game and led 21-11 before Live Oak closed a gap with on a 8-3 run behind the serving of Diana De la Cerda and Dedra Foster. Foster served three straight points with Colusa in a game-point situation, including a pair of aces, before the set ended on a serving error.
The RedHawks were dominant in the third game. Jessica Hickel’s serving, along with myriad kills from Gillian Ayala and a block from Stocks, propelled Colusa on a 8-0 run, giving Colusa a 10-1 lead early in the match. Colusa led by at least seven the rest of the way, cruising to a 25-9 win and a sweep of the Lions.
Colusa (33-3, 5-0 Sacramento Valley League) played Pierce last night, and travels to Marysville on Thursday for a late-season non-league match-up with the Indians (1-19, 0-5 Pioneer Valley League).
