The Colusa Boys Varsity soccer team hosted Los Molinos on Thursday and came away with a convincing 6-1 league win.
The RedHawks took 17 minutes to score their first goal, and it was scored by midfielder Ulises Galvan, unassisted. Colusa’s second goal went in off the foot of forward Alejandro Rico, assisted by Galvan, at the 30 minute mark. The 2-0 score held to the intermission.
The RedHawks came out in the second half on a mission to open up more offense, and scored their third goal at the 55th minute, on a shot from midfielder Edgar Garcia, unassisted. Los Molinos scored their lone goal next, at the 65th minute to bring the score to 3-1. From there, the RedHawks went on a tear, and scored three more goals in the remaining minutes of the match. Dominic Garcia scored in the 70th minute, assisted by Alejandro Rico. Midfielder Rodrigo Rodriguez found the back of the net a minute later, assisted by Leo Guzman. The RedHawks sixth and final goal went in at the 75th minute on a shot from Alejandro Rico, unassisted. The 6-1 score would hold to the final whistle giving Colusa the league win. The RedHawks had strong defensive play from fullbacks Jesus Hernandez, Victor Hernandez, Darien Sarabia and Saul Velez, head coach Dan Kiely said, adding that goalkeepers Diego Avila and Omar Huerta had good outings. Avila had two saves in the first half and Huerta two in the second half. Colusa now stands at 3-2-1 in league play and 4-2-1 overall. Colusa will resume play on January 9th when they host Hamilton City.■
