At about 3:00 PM, a CHP officer was traveling northbound on Interstate 5 just north of Delevan road and observed two vehicles on the shoulder.
“The officer contacted the driver of a white pick up who stated that he had pulled over to assist the driver of a red Mustang who had run out of gas,” said Franco Castillo, CHP Public Information Officer. “As he was helping the driver, he explained to the officer that the driver began breathing heavy and was not making any sense when he spoke. The motorist called 911 and asked for an ambulance.”
When the officer made contact with the driver of the red Ford Mustang, later identified as Kevin Potts, 56 of Stockton, he smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage the CHP said.
“The officer performed a DUI evaluation and determined the driver was in fact under the influence of an alcoholic beverage,” Castillo added. “The officer placed Mr. Potts under arrest for DUI and booked him at the Colusa County Jail.” ■
