The Williams Yellowjackets won last Friday’s match-up against the Willows Honkers with a final score of 4-1.
Scoring for the Yellowjackets first goal was midfielder Erik Ruiz, who found the back of Willows’ net at the 15th minute, unassisted. Both teams’ defense fought a hard battle but Ruiz would be the only scorer for the first half.
Williams came out strong in the second half capsizing off a scoring opportunity early by Samuel Navarro, with the assist by Mauricio Davalos, for 2-0 lead at the 50 minute mark. Continuous misfires by Willows allowed Williams to remain in the lead and find their way to the scoreboard again with the Yellowjackets’ third goal by Emilio Navarro.
Willows finally found the back of Williams net at the 65 minute mark for 3-1 score. A close range shot from Samuel Navarro would be the final goal of the game, signaling the victory for the Yellowjackets.
Williams closed out the week with two wins and a loss on the season. The Yellowjackets lost last Tuesday in Hamilton, 0-3, and won last Wednesday at home against Durham, 7-1. The Yellowjackets sit 10-3-5, 6-2-4 on the season. They descend to Esparto tonight with game time at 3:15 PM. ■
